After waiting over a year to get in to a clinic through my doctor… I connected with science and humans. I’ve been getting bHRT for a year. I am so happy.
… and still waiting for that call from the clinic to say they have an appointment available.

Chantal Jetté

I am really impressed with the rapidity and effectiveness of the process. I had a videoconference call less than 2 weeks ago, and blood test requisition sent last week, and a videoconference with a nurse practitioner yesterday! She explained all of my results and now I have a clear treatment plan suggested (bHRT).

Laura V

Menopause came with a menagerie of health issues. My GP refused to acknowledge anything having relation to menopause and sent me on a spiral of specialists that consistently couldnt find anything medically wrong. This was a 7 year journey. My symptoms got worse and of course after all that I ended up with health anxiety. Science and Humans has been a real saviour. Abida related to everything I was experiencing and was so knowledgeable on treatments! Even beyond bHRT she offered advice to help with deficiencies from my bloodwork.

Alison Jones

I love working with Bonnie at Science and humans. She is very knowledgeable and understanding. I love that I am in control of when I book appointments, I love that they are virtual and that I can have my prescription sent to my pharmacy.

Barb

So thankful to have come across Science & Humans. The program for bHRT has helped me feel like myself and I always feel heard and my concerns always addressed. Thank you for giving me something I couldn't get from my family practitioner!

Amanda Richardson

I started my bHRT journey in June and had many questions. The NP’s that assisted me were patient and very knowledgeable. Sign up was easy and I always get quick responses to emails.

Kelli Lett

I’ve had 2 appts with Science & Humans naturopaths and have enjoyed the experience. I’ve felt that my symptoms were recognized and addressed. Also, my questions were answered regarding WHY bioidentical hormones are different (and safer) than synthetic ones, and HOW they are compounded with their recommended pharmacies. So far, I’ve had a great experience with my prescribed BHRT. I know everyone is different and won’t necessarily experience the same effects, but it’s helped me with mood, sleep, hot flashes, energy, libido, and some muscle & joint pain. We’re still working on the heart palpitations and hoping that will eventually help too. I’ve recommended this company to several friends as my family dr didn’t have experience with bioidentical hormones.

Frequently asked questions

The Science behind bHRT

Menopause marks the transition from full ovarian function to the end of ovulation, defined medically as twelve months after the final menstrual period. This journey involves three stages: perimenopause, starting around age 45 with symptoms like irregular periods and hot flashes; menopause, beginning twelve months after the last period, with symptoms often continuing; and postmenopause, typically around age 60 but sometimes extending into the late 60s. Despite its challenges, menopause is a natural phase that can be managed with proper care and support.

Perimenopause marks the onset of the menopause transition, characterized by fluctuating hormone levels. These changes can cause symptoms such as sleep disruptions, mood swings, hot flashes, muscle aches, and night sweats. This phase typically begins in the mid-to-late forties, but can start earlier, varying from person to person.

Treatment for menopause symptoms can vary depending on their severity and individual health needs. At its core, menopause involves hormone fluctuations that can cause significant discomfort. For those experiencing severe symptoms, rebalancing hormone levels through hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can be effective. HRT medications come in various forms like pills, patches, and creams, offering flexibility to suit different lifestyles.

Alternatively, non-hormonal medications tailored to specific symptoms can provide relief for those with milder symptoms or who cannot use hormonal options due to allergies or other reasons. Additionally, supplements and vitamins may complement treatment by supporting overall well-being, such as enhancing energy levels and improving sleep quality.

To explore the most suitable treatment options for your symptoms and lifestyle, consider consulting with a healthcare practitioner on our platform, trained in menopause management.

At Science and Humans, we prioritize lab testing to evaluate and address menopause symptoms. This natural and anticipated phase of life requires comprehensive blood work to accurately monitor hormone levels, identify deficiencies, and assess their potential effects. Additionally, this testing helps us rule out any contraindications before initiating treatment, ensuring patient safety. Follow-up blood work is not mandatory, as clinical guidelines suggest that menopause treatments should be symptom-based, focusing on managing the specific symptoms experienced by the patient.

Our extensive blood panel includes testing for 13 blood markers, encompassing a complete hormone panel, biochemistry profile, ferritin levels, and vitamin B12 status.

Health Assessment

The initial step involves completing our questionnaire to assess your medical history. Once submitted, we will arrange for a comprehensive referral for hormone and metabolic blood work to be emailed to you.

Timely completion of your blood work is essential for evaluating your eligibility for the program. Please note that scheduling your initial virtual consultation with a practitioner is contingent upon receiving your blood work results.

Personalized, individual healthcare plan

During the video consultation with a licensed practitioner, you'll have the opportunity for an in-depth discussion about your blood work results, the symptoms you're experiencing, and your lifestyle goals. The practitioner will interpret the results and recommend a personalized treatment plan designed to address both your symptoms and lifestyle objectives.

Treatment

After your consultation, a prescription will be sent to our affiliated pharmacy, who will contact you within 48 hours of receiving it. Your customized medication will be shipped directly to your doorstep. Please be aware that certain medications may require a signature upon delivery for verification purposes.

Quarterly follow-ups

Follow-up consultations are scheduled quarterly after starting your treatment. This schedule allows us to monitor your progress, address any potential side effects, and adjust your treatment plan as needed. This structured approach ensures ongoing care, with prescriptions renewed at each follow-up to support your health journey effectively.

Your prescription will include your individual combination of Menopause therapy, including mood and symptom management. The personalized treatment, including your specific dosage, will be determined by your Science&Humans clinician during your initial virtual consultation. Menopause treatment is prescribed solely at the discretion of the clinician, based on an extensive analysis of your blood results and symptoms.

Absolutely! Science&Humans works exclusively with the best Canadian licensed clinicians and pharmacies, ensuring that all treatments are prescribed directly to the patients based on individual needs. Our experienced clinicians use long-standing, proven treatment plans, authorized for sale by Health Canada, to treat menopause symptoms. While there are risks associated with any medication, our healthcare practitioners are trained to discuss these risks in detail and provide a treatment plan tailored to your medical history, symptoms, and lifestyle.

Your quarterly subscription fee covers follow-up consultation with a practitioner. Following the consult, your prescription will be renewed for the next quarter. Follow up blood work may be included upon the nurse practitioner’s request.

If you have already been issued the blood work requisition, the $50 is non-refundable. If your appointment has taken place and a prescription was offered, the $150 is non-refundable.

However, if during the initial virtual consultation the clinician determines that hormone replacement therapy isn’t the right option for you based on your blood work results and medical history, we will fully refund the cost of the appointment.

First-time blood work requisitions are emailed within 24 hours of sign up.

Follow-up blood work requisitions are emailed 85 days from your last subscription renewal.

Once you have been approved to start HRT, payment will be processed for your initial virtual consultation.

After your initial virtual consultation, we will set up a subscription for you that will renew every quarter. You will receive an email with instructions to complete follow-up blood work when requested by the clinician, and a link to schedule your next appointment once your blood work results are available.

Yes, absolutely! To get started, simply complete the questionnaire during checkout. Within 24 hours, we'll email you a blood work requisition to update your health profile. Please ensure to include your current prescribed medications in the questionnaire and email us a picture of the medication label for our practitioner's review. You can send the images to support@scienceandhumans.com. Once we receive your information, we'll schedule your consultation. Once everything is set up, you're good to go!
